Home Driver Improvement & Traffic Ticket Courses - Classroom

The Tampa Area Safety Council conducts the following courses in a live classroom format at locations in Tampa, Carrollwood, Brandon and Winter Haven in Polk County. Pre-registration is required.

Basic Driver Improvement Course (BDI) – 4 Hours
If you received a ticket you may elect to take this class to keep points off your license. You will keep your SAFE DRIVER status and your insurance rates should not increase. You may also voluntarily elect to take this class to receive a discount on your car insurance rates---check with your insurance carrier. (Attention: Per FS 318.14, CDL License Holders are not eligible for points removal by taking this course.)

Traffic Collision Avoidance Course (TCAC) – 4 Hours
If you received notice to attend the Traffic Collision Avoidance Course (TCAC), you may attend the Basic Driver Improvement Course (BDI) to satisfy this requirement.

First Time Driver Course – Drug, Alcohol, Traffic Education (D.A.T.E.) – 4 Hours
All
first time drivers are required to take this class before applying for a driver’s license.

Advanced Driver Improvement Course (ADI) – 12 Hours
This course is required by the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles for reinstatement of a driver’s license which has been revoked, suspended, or cancelled due to excessive points or habitual traffic offender status. You are also required to take this course if you are applying for a hardship license; this course may also be Court or Judge Ordered.

8 Hour Intermediate Driver Improvement (IDI)
This Court or Judge Ordered course is for individuals who have a poor driving history and are at risk of a point suspension. Please Note: This course will NOT satisfy an order to take the “8 hour Driving While License Suspended Course” or the “8 hour Aggressive Driver Course”.

8 Hour Aggressive Driver Course
This Court or Judge Ordered course is for individuals who have received several traffic violations in a short period of time or who have been identified by law enforcement on a traffic citation as an “Aggressive Driver”.

Child Passenger Restraint Program – 3 Hours
This Court or Judge Ordered course is for individuals who received a traffic citation for violating the provisions of the child restraint requirements in FS 316.613(1)a.
